I have been listening to people complain about wearing face masks and Black Lives Matter. Infectious Disease Specialists, ICU Doctors and ICU Nurses who are inundated with the COVID cases are asking us to wear masks and to socially distance ourselves to help slow the spread of the virus. Wearing a mask and social distancing is telling those around you and those you love that you actually care about lives other than your own. If we all wear masks and social distance ourselves, we could also be saving your life. Doctors and Nurses wear masks and are still here to tell us about it. It is a change but we can do it.
As for Black Lives Matter, if you have ever been discriminated against because of the color of your skin, religion, sexual orientation, sex or any other delineation, you understand why the Black community has had it. I have heard the argument that this isn’t a good time for this but there is never a good time for this. It is time we all grow up and care about our brothers and sisters. We are all in this together. Love and compassion will serve us much better than anger and fear. We need to work together to make the world and our communities better places for everyone. Before you get angry at me for this post, I don’t condone graffiti or destruction of property or lives. I do understand the anger and that people feel helpless. There is a lot going on in the world. Divisiveness doesn’t solve anything. We need to help heal the hurts and not add to them. Violence doesn’t solve anything. We are all in this together.
